Peer Review

Process

Research in Nondestructive Evaluation uses single-blind peer review. Reviewers have access to author names and affiliations; reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors unless the reviewer chooses to sign their review.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial desk review by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief to assess fit with RNDE's scope, originality, and minimum quality standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria are returned to authors without external review.

Manuscripts that pass desk review are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers. Reviewers are selected for their expertise in the relevant subject area and are asked to declare any conflicts of interest before agreeing to review.

Decisions

Following peer review, the Editor-in-Chief issues one of the following decisions:

  • Accept
  • Minor revision
  • Major revision
  • Reject

Authors of revised manuscripts should include a point-by-point response to reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to reviewers at the editor's discretion.

Timing

RNDE targets a first editorial decision within 10 weeks of submission. Authors are encouraged to contact the Managing Editor at rnde@asnt.org if they have not received a decision within 12 weeks.

Reviewer Guidelines

Reviewers are asked to assess manuscripts for originality, scientific rigor, clarity, and significance to the NDE research community. Detailed reviewer guidelines are available upon assignment. Reviewers who identify potential ethical concerns should notify the Managing Editor directly.

RNDE follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for peer review. See the Publication Ethics policy for further information.
